Can work (films, spots, docs, etc.) that’s co-directed be considered for NDS entry submission?
Yes, any works that are co-directed can be entered in the SHOOT New Directors Search. Many duos and teams have been selected over the years. Just keep in mind that all co-directors must be directing professionally less than 3 years. If one qualifies and the other doesn’t, they cannot enter.
I’ve been a Producer and Story Producer on reality-based programming for years. However, the projects I’ve done in the past 2-3 years have been wearing both hats – Producing and Directing. Would my prior work Producing disqualify me?
No. As long as you weren’t directing prior to 3 years ago you’re considered a new director. Whether you’re a producer, actor, cinematographer, editor or TV network owner etc for 20 years doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is you weren’t a professional “Director” farther back than 3 years from annual search year. Remember […]
I’m trying to register on SHOOTonline, but I get a message asking if I’m human. Why is this?
Most likely, it’s because you’re using the autofill feature on your browser. (This is present in Google’s Chrome browser, for example.) Our system is set up to reject any registrations where the fields are filled in too quickly; this is to cut down on the amount of spam registrations we get. Simply entering your registration […]
I want to enter work I’ve just completed, however, the web spot is embargoed for a few days after the entry deadline. Can I enter/pay before deadline but wait until the embargo lifted?
We suggest uploading an mp4 file instead of a sharing link (password or not) as initial reviews will start soon after entry deadline. This way SHOOT Editors would be able to see it inside our secure system if comes up for review before the your embargo date and you’re assured no one else could possibly […]

I have never directed any type of advertising or entertainment professionally but I have been self funding and making my shorts since 2010. Does this disqualify me to enter ‘The New Directors Search’?
You’re not disqualified unless you you received payment(s) from any professional company/organization for any work you directed prior to 3 years back and/or received payments for showing any work you directed prior to 3 years back. In other words, receiving payment for your work prior to 3 years back disqualifies you. If you’re still not […]
I’m trying to create my NDS entry but I don’t know how to add my work(s). Is it a video share link you want? An uploaded video file?
We accept Vimeo & YouTube links as well as video file uploads (Mpeg 4 format) for work entry(s). So if your work is already up on Youtube and Vimeo, you can simply use those “share” links.* Either way, an uploaded thumbnail is required if you’re uploading or using YouTube or Vimeo links. IMPORTANT: If you’re […]
